Loïc Lanco

Associate Professor at Univ. Paris Diderot

I am an Associate Professor working since Sept. 2007 at Univ. Paris Diderot, with my research in C2N in Solid State Quantum Optics. My main goal is to control the interaction between matter qubits and photonic qubits, using artificial atoms (semiconductor quantum dots) embedded in optical microcavities. Our light-matter interfaces can be used both as excellent emitters and receivers of single photons: this allows manipulating a single solid-state qubit with a single incoming photon and, conversely, manipulating single photons via the solid-state qubit. In particular, I have focused my research activities on the enhancement of photon-photon and spin-photon interactions, pushing them down to the single photon level.

Habilitation

My Research Habilitation manuscript is meant as an introduction to light-matter interfacing with semiconductor quantum dots and optical microcavities, from the experimental, technological and theoretical points of view. It gives an overview of the results obtained in the 2007-2017 decade, from the first demonstration of QD-cavity determinsitic coupling to the latest results on single-photon nonlinearities, spin-photon interfacing and single photon emission. My habilitation manuscript can be downloaded here.

Thesis

My PhD thesis at Laboratory "Materials and Quantum Phenomena" dealt with the development of integrated sources of twin photons, i.e. photon pairs emitted at the same time and displaying correlated optical properties. During this thesis I also developed new frequency conversion schemes and, in collaboration with Thales Research& Technology, new techniques for the characterization of integrated lasers and waveguides. My thesis manuscript can be downloaded here.
